Among them is the new Interventional Neuroradiology Theatre, Australia’s most advanced neurosurgery theatre, allowing the San to treat more neurological patients on site and reduce the need for urgent transfers in neurological emergencies. The theatre was opened by Member for Wahroonga, Alister Henskens SC MP. The hospital also became the first in the Southern Hemisphere to introduce the da Vinci 5 surgical system, providing the latest generation of robotic- assisted surgery technology, including telepresence capability, and the first in the Asia Pacific region to utilise new cranial arm technology, supporting greater precision and efficiency in neurosurgical procedures. Additional investments include a new G-Arm, delivering enhanced intraoperative imaging. In orthopaedics, the Mako robotic platform has been upgraded with a shoulder application, enabling the first robotic shoulder replacement surgery performed in NSW. A further upgrade to Mako is also scheduled for later this year, continuing to expand robotic capabilities for orthopaedic surgeons. Together, these investments reflect the San’s ongoing commitment to innovation and ensuring clinicians have access to the technology needed to deliver world-class patient care. Investing in Innovation Spirit is designed to ensure the values of the organisation are not just known, but consistently lived and experienced every day. As valued clinical partners, doctors play an important role in bringing these values to life through everyday interactions with patients, colleagues and care teams.
