Dr Roderick Brooks graduated MBBS from the University of Sydney in 1981. Residencies were at Royal Newcastle and Plymouth General Hospitals. While in the UK, Dr Brooks obtained by examination the Fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and England. On returning to Australia, Dr Brooks worked at Royal North Shore and Gosford Hospitals before commencing the formal four-year Australian Orthopaedics Association training program in 1989. During the program, overseas postings were undertaken at Exeter, UK, a well-known joint replacement centre, and Portland, Oregon, in paediatric orthopaedic surgery. After completing this program in 1992, Dr Brooks qualified as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics) in 1993. In 1994 Dr Brooks commenced private practice in Northern Sydney. Dr Brooks was appointed to Sydney Adventist Hospital in 1994 and Hornsby Hospital in 1995. In recent years he has concentrated on surgery of the hip and knee, while looking after the general orthopaedic trauma presenting to the Emergency Departments of the above hospitals. His practice, located in Wahroonga Village, now focuses on hip and knee surgery, including replacements of the hip and knee and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, with all cases carried out at Sydney Adventist Hospital.
