Rehabilitation at the San - Opened in September 2017

San General Manager, Brett GoodsIt’s as simple as 'more care' from 'more of us'...

"There’s something unique about the San. Everyone who works here feels it, and many of our patients and community members talk about it. It’s hard to put your finger on, but it’s as real as the bricks and mortar in our buildings.

When we ask people why they come to the San, amongst the answers we get of high quality services and skilled experts, is also invariably the reason that people say they come back for the extra ‘care’ they feel at the San.

I am really excited that we will now be able to provide patients with ‘more care’ from ‘more of us’ as we open a new rehabilitation unit with personalised care provided by a team of experts, right here at the San.

Being able to offer pre and post event rehabilitation to our patients really closes the circle of care we can provide."

Mr Brett Goods, CEO Adventist HealthCare Limited

Completing the circle …

hospital stay to rehabilitation all on the San campus, providing peace of mind and continuity of care

Very few hospitals can offer a complete circle of care to their patients. Most can offer a short recovery period directly after an operation or illness, but generally patients then have to be transferred to another facility to complete their rehabilitation. Not only can this be disruptive and painful, but it can also extend the length of the recovery process.

Seamless transition for better engagement …

Patients will seamlessly transition from a medical or surgical ward to the rehabilitation wards. This continuity of care will enable our staff to communicate fully about the patients’ needs and wellbeing. Importantly, our doctors and surgeons will be able to easily visit their patients without having to go off-site.

SAH FacilitiesPurpose-designed facilities …

Sydney Adventist Hospital has redeveloped facilities on Level 4 and 5 of the Kress building into a new purpose-designed 48 bed rehabilitation unit within close proximity to its allied health services and hydrotherapy pool. The facility has been located and designed to ease the stress and pain involved in transitioning from hospital stay into rehabilitation and the San is pleased to be able to provide total patient care under the one roof.

The rehabilitation facility will provide:

  • 48 private rooms with ensuites
  • Windows and views from all rooms
  • Physiotherapy gymnasium
  • Consulting rooms for patient and therapist evaluation and discussion
  • Physiotherapy servicesADL (Activities of Daily Living) facilities for assessment and to replicate activities required to be performed in daily routines.
  • Open spaces for group therapy sessions
  • Aquatic physiotherapy (Hydrotherapy)

The multidisciplinary team… providing physical and emotional support

Studies have shown that a multi-disciplinary team approach where a range of experts all contribute to a patient’s personal rehabilitation program, will result in the fastest and most efficient recovery. At the San we understand that rehabilitation is not only a physical recovery, but an emotional one too. With a leading acute-care hospital under the same roof, complications and emergencies are quickly and easily managed, providing great emotional comfort for patients and their families. Our mission has always been to treat the ‘whole’ person –mind, body and spirit. Being able to offer continued care from before admission all the way through the journey until the patient is fully functional back at home, is hugely satisfying for our staff and a great comfort to the patient and their family.

The regular support team that will be in place at the San includes:

  • Rehabilitation specialists and medical officers
  • Rehabilitation nurses
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Exercise physiologists

The additional services available if required include:

  • Social Workers
  • Dietitian
  • Speech pathologist
  • Emergency support
  • Full diagnostic facilities
