National Stroke Week
This week, the San is recognising National Stroke Week, a nationwide campaign aimed at raising awareness of the signs of stroke and the importance of timely intervention.
This year's theme from the Stroke Foundation is ‘F.A.S.T. Heroes’ which celebrates the people who recognise the signs of stroke and call an ambulance immediately. Every 11 minutes someone in Australia experiences a stroke, making it one of the nation's leading causes of death and disability. Recognising the signs early is critical, as up to 1.9 million brain cells are lost every minute a stroke goes untreated.
As we recognise National Stroke Week, we're also celebrating a landmark year for stroke care at the San. Earlier this year, Sydney Adventist Hospital became the first private hospital in Australia to receive a Gold Angels Award from the World Stroke Organisation in recognition of excellence in stroke care. This milestone was followed by the opening of our new Interventional Neuroradiology Theatre, the most advanced neurosurgery theatre in Australia, further strengthening our ability to provide world-class care for patients experiencing stroke and other complex neurological conditions.
To mark National Stroke Week, our team has been visiting departments across the hospital with activities and giveaways to educate staff and patients about the warning signs of stroke.
Thank you to everyone involved in delivering exceptional stroke care at the San, from Emergency Care and Radiology to Radley Ward, our neurologists, neurosurgeons, theatre teams and the many staff working behind the scenes.
