Sydney Adventist Hospital hosts inaugural Women in CI Asia Pacific Summit

Sydney Adventist Hospital is honoured to have hosted the inaugural Women in CI Summit on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 February. Hosted by our ENT department in collaboration with Advanced Bionics, the Summit brought together experts from across the Asia Pacific to share knowledge and strengthen collaboration in hearing healthcare.

Held at our Clinical Education Centre, the San hosted more than 50 attendees over the two-day Summit, including ENT surgeons, audiologists and cochlear implant professionals from across the region. It was also attended by government and industry partners, including Member for Davidson, Matt Cross, and representatives from NSW Health, the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA), the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and The Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery (ASOHNS).

The Summit focused on newly released national adult cochlear implant guidelines, which are aimed at addressing long-standing gaps in access and care for adults with hearing loss. It also shone a light on the barriers faced by female surgeons and audiologists.

Attendees also took part in hands-on sessions which explored how AI and robotics are transforming outcomes for patients and surgeons. The ergonomics clinic saw attendees operate on 3D printed bones using exoscopes and microscopes designed specifically for female surgeons, to prevent and reduce the risk of back injury.

Congratulations to Prof. Payal Mukherjee and our ENT team for delivering a Summit that reflects the San’s commitment to innovation, education and improving patient outcomes.
