Esteemed Gastroenterologist Honoured at Blessing Ceremony

Former San gastroenterologist and Adventist HealthCare (AHCL) Board member Professor Brian Jones was special guest at a ceremony to bless the Jones Endoscopy and Procedure Centre at Sydney Adventist Hospital which is named in his honour.

Professor Jones along with his wife Elaine, and their three daughters as well as members of the AHCL Executive, doctors, nurses, and staff all attended the event held in front of the entry to the purpose-built large day procedure centre.

After graduating from St Mary’s Hospital, London, and completing his gastroenterology training in the UK, he pursued further specialist training in Melbourne, Canada and the USA, before coming to Sydney in 1986.

He started work at the San in 1987, when it only had one small endoscopy procedure room, and as his practice grew, so did the facilities at the San to boast four endoscopy procedure rooms as well as the day procedure facility.

“The day procedure centre has increased in size over the years but has never lost sight of the patients’ well-being, or the support amongst staff. It is a joy to work in that environment,” said Professor Jones

Adventist Healthcare CEO Brett Goods, Medical and Clinical Governance Executive Dr Jeanette Conley and Director of Perioperative Care Karen Reimer all paid tribute to Professor Jones’ leadership and pursuit of clinical excellence.

“Professor Jones exemplified and enhanced our mission and holistic values of the hospital which in turn has seen him make an outstanding medical contribution,” said Mr Goods.

In blessing the centre, Pastor Sid Griffiths described the centre as a beacon of hope and light inside the hospital which allows staff to provide compassionate care for patients.
