"My placement on the neurosurgical and urology/ENT wards was a valuable learning experience where I felt supported by the nurses and encouraged to step out of my comfort zone. I appreciated how willing the team was to explain procedures and let me practise new skills. There were moments where the workload and pace were challenging, but the staff guided me through these situations and helped me build confidence in managing multiple patients and performing both pre- and post-operative care. I especially want to acknowledge the ENT/Urology ward nurses, who were incredible they supported me as a student, treated me with kindness, taught me thoroughly at every step, and truly made me feel like part of the team. Overall, the placement helped me grow significantly, and I genuinely enjoyed being part of the ward."

Student presentations
Throughout their placements, students develop practical skills, build confidence and gain professional insight into their chosen profession.
The photos shared here capture some of the highlights from our students’ experiences. They are asked to present one thing they have learnt from their clinical placement. Examples include how to care for a patient with a colostomy; how to do bladder irrigation; how to do an ECG; PPE for chemotherapy; how to apply telemetry. Students have a great deal of fun sharing their experiences, which are are an important step in preparing our students for successful careers.
