Cancer patients rate Sydney Adventist Hospital Cancer Services as matching NSW's best

Sydney Adventist Hospital Cancer Services have been given a major tick of approval by cancer patients, being rated as outperforming most, and equalled by only one other outpatient cancer clinic in NSW.

Over 11,000 cancer patients receiving services at over 44 facilities across NSW were surveyed for the Bureau of Health Information and the Cancer Institute NSW Outpatient Cancer Clinics Survey 2018.

San Cancer Services rated significantly above the NSW average across 8 key performance measures, a result equalled only by Campbelltown Hospital.

Patients rated their experience of access to services, care planning and coordination, complications, follow-up and support.

The San rated above the NSW result for a total of 38 performance measures.

Sydney Adventist Hospital Chief Executive Officer Brett Goods said the results confirmed the remarkable care provided by the San Integrated Cancer Centre team.

“This is a heart-warming endorsement of how we really do cherish our role in caring for cancer patients during these difficult times in their lives when they are most vulnerable” he said.

“To match the State’s other top rated facility and achieve a significantly higher rating than so many other cancer services across many other areas of patient experience is a validation of our overall mission to showcase Christianity in Action in every patient interaction.

Our vision is to be a provider of world-class care. We are very proud and thankful to our teams and partners in the provision of quality cancer services.”

This positive rating builds on the San’s rating as first in NSW for patient experience during the 2017 survey.

The 2018 survey results rating the San as outperforming most facilities and equalled by only Campbelltown Hospital highlights the San’s obvious ongoing commitment to continuous improvements in care.

Mark Middleton, Chief Executive Officer of Icon Group (owner of the Icon Radiation Oncology service at the San), Australia’s largest dedicated cancer care provider, said the Group are thrilled to have achieved this prestigious accolade for the second time.

“Icon are committed to delivering exceptional cancer care to our patients, and it is a resounding testament to our partnership with the San Integrated Cancer Centre, and our sharing in the common goal to provide the highest quality patient care experience, that we have achieved this result for the past two consecutive years.”

The just released 2018 survey results indicate San patient feedback. Respondents comments indicated:

  • Would speak highly (95%)
  • Care very good (93%)
  • Care very well organised (93%)
  • Treated with respect and dignity (98%)
  • Polite and courteous reception staff (99%)
  • Kind and caring health professionals (97%)
  • Clean treatment area (96%)
  • Very good health professionals ( 92%)

Sydney Adventist Hospital’s Clinical Director of Cancer Services A/Prof Gavin Marx says the results reaffirm the united commitment to quality care at the San Integrated Cancer Centre.

“It’s a credit to all the teams delivering cancer services at the San” he says.

“From the hospitality staff who take pride in maintaining the physical environment, our reception staff who do a tremendous job in supporting all our patients, all our expert clinicians involved in the management, care and treatment of our patients, to the wonderful staff who provide support services.

I feel the results truly reflect the strong multidisciplinary team approach to Cancer Care, our commitment to excellence, and to the hospitals Mission of caring for the community.”
