PNG healthcare team visits the San

Healthcare professionals from Papua New Guinea have been learning from San interventional cardiologist Dr Jason Sharp during an observational study tour.

The cardiologists, radiographer and cardiac nurse have visited to increase their knowledge in advance of the installation of a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory in Port Moresby in late July.

Dr Sharp will be travelling over to assist as the doctors undertake their first procedure in Port Moresby's first public hospital CCL.

Dr Sharp has been a volunteer surgeon with the Open Heart International Team since 2004 having donated his skills and time during 12 trips, 11 of them to Myanmar. In addition to the life transforming surgeries performed, skills-sharing during these visits has equipped the local health professionals in Myanmar to be self-sufficient, in line with OHI's aim to leave a legacy of learning in the countries they work in.

The visit by the PNG professionals to the San will similarly help people needing surgery in Port Moresby.

More details to come.
