San ENT surgeon Associate Professor Yuresh Naidoo on radio 2GB

The San Hospital has the world’s largest number of the most advanced surgical operating theatre cameras.

With an estimated 2.5 million Australians needing surgery every year, endoscopic cameras providing internal visuals through small keyhole incisions have empowered surgeons doing surgeries as diverse as bowel cancer removal to hysterectomy, prostatectomies, brain tumour excision, and intricate nasal surgery.

Now in another major advance, endoscopic cameras are capturing images in 4K, providing what’s considered to be the clearest sharpest medical images available.

In a multi-million dollar investment the San Hospital at Wahroonga, which does more than 18000 surgeries a year, has just installed 17 of the new camera units, called the Arthrex Synergy System - in its operating theatres - the largest number at any one hospital in the world.

San Ear Nose and Throat and Skull Base surgeon Associate Professor Dr Yuresh Naidoo says the difference in clarity for his field of work, is like chalk and cheese.
