Spiritual Care Services blessed in Tulloch

A Blessing held to commemorate the new facilities in the San Clinic Tulloch building for the San's Spiritual Care Services team included current and former staff and supporters of the service.

Spiritual Care Services helps the San to meet its Mission of whole person care by providing for not only the physical but also the spiritual needs of patients and staff.

The Spiritual Blessing ceremony included a welcome from Spiritual Care Services' Julie Fehlberg, and AHCL CEO Brett Goods.

The new facilities provide spacious and purpose built rooms including a training room for attendees to the Clinical Pastoral Education Program which the service received accreditation to deliver in February this year.

Reflecting on the original Clinical Pastoral Education Program presented in 2004 guest speaker and former San Chaplain Adrian Flemming talked about the importance of the program and presented the Spiritual Care Services team with the original 2004 Certificate of Accreditation, a book written by former San Chaplain Tom Ludowici and a statue representing the interactive and relational process of groups of students learning together and from each other.

Other guest speakers included former Gosford Hospital Chaplain Ken Shakespeare who reminisced on his time in CPE training.

"The presence of this CPE Centre in this Training Hospital is a blessing, a place of healing where wounds are felt; a place for enriching experiences, personal and spiritual growth, provoking, challenging, commending, affirming, life-changing, enhancing of life experiences, life transforming, where God is a God of fresh starts and new creations."

Avondale College of High Education President Professor Ray Roennfeldt gave the blessing.

The anointment of the Spiritual Care Services team and prayer followed the speeches.

The ceremony ended with a morning tea where guests from a range of departments across the hospital were invited to inspect the new office space.

The Spiritual Care offices and CPE training room are now located on Level 1 in the Tulloch building.
