San outpatient cancer services best performing in NSW

San outpatient cancer services are the best performing in the State after a 2017 survey of more than 11,000 patients from 50 public and private clinics across NSW. In 25 of the measures surveyed the San ranked significantly more positive than the NSW average.

The Bureau of Health Information (BHI) has just released the survey of outpatient cancer centres of which the San Integrated Cancer Centre was one of the 50 facilities surveyed.

This year’s survey included 50 hospitals with outpatient cancer clinics

  • It included 80 questions about topics such as access to services, care planning and coordination, patient experience and complications which were rolled up into 53 measures
  • The results were based on responses of 11,301 people who attended a NSW outpatient cancer clinic in November 2017
  • Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH) had 318 patients contribute. The San Integrated Cancer Centre sample includes our Poon Day Infusion Centre as well as Radiation Oncology Centres.

SAH achieved outstanding results:

  • 93% of SAH responses rated their overall care as ‘very good’
  • 96% of SAH respondents said they would speak highly of their clinic experience to family & friends
  • 98% of SAH respondents said they were treated with respect while they were at our centre
  • 97% of SAH respondents said their cultural and religious beliefs were respected by staff
  • 97% of SAH respondents said their staff were kind and caring towards them

As with last year’s survey, the measures for each facility were reported relative to the NSW average, and the key measure is the number of results which were ‘significantly more positive than the NSW result’. SAH achieved the highest number in this measure – reaching 25 results significantly above NSW, followed by three other facilities which each achieved 13 significantly more positive measures.

Clinical Director of San Cancer Services Associate Professor Gavin Marx and San Chief Executive Officer Brett Goods have applauded members of the San team involved in cancer care.

“Once again, the results of patient experiences at the San Integrated Cancer Centre have been outstanding.

These results are a direct reflection of the San team’s continued commitment and dedication to their work, and the remarkable care they provide. This care has such an important impact on the patients we treat, but it also highlights to us what a privilege it is to work with such an exceptional team and we thank them most sincerely for their contribution to this great result.

This is a truly remarkable achievement... something we can all be very proud of.”
