San Cardiothoracic Surgeon undertakes world first heart transplant

In a world first, Australian surgeons have transplanted three hearts that had stopped beating.

The operation, dubbed "Heart in a box" will vastly expand the pool of hearts available for transplant and enable them to be ferried over greater distances.

San Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr Emily Granger was one of the doctors performing the procedure St Vincent's Hospital.
