Order of Australia for OHI Doctors

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

San Open Heart International volunteers Dr Ian Nicholson and Dr James Pollitt have been announced Order of Australia by The Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO.


The Australia Day 2014 Honours List was announced on Australia day.
 

Dr Ian Nicholson received a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for "significant services to medicine in the field of cardiac surgery, and through volunteer outreach programs in the Pacific and Africa".
 

Dr Nicholson began volunteering with OHI in 1994. Today he has volunteered on more than 30 trips to countries around the world including Cambodia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Rwanda providing free cardiac surgery to people who could otherwise die.
 

Dr Nicholson is also a member of the OHI Management Committee, and represents OHI’s interests at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
 

Dr James Pollitt received a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia for "service to medicine as a general practitioner, and to the community".
 

Dr Pollitt volunteered with OHI between 1998 and 2004 and provided free Cleft Lip and Palate surgery for adults and children in Nepal.
