Surgical Centre completes 100th Wrap With Love blanket

Surgical Centre staff members have completed their 100th 'Wrap with Love' blanket in honour of former San nurse, midwife and NUM Glenys Chapman who played a key role in establishing the Surgical Centre and contributed 21 years to the San associated humanitarian medical and surgical aid program Open Heart International.

The 'Wrap with Love' initiative was started by Surgical Centre and Preadmission Clinic nurse Belinda Chatman with the dual purpose of keeping patients occupied and reducing nerves, while also helping people in need.

The initiative is promoted in the Centre by the availability of baskets of wool, knitting needles and instructions in the waiting room for patients with many picking up the knitting needles and knitting a square for the blankets.

The 'Wrap with Love' organisation collects the donated blankets and distributes them around Australia and 23 countries around the world, providing warmth to those suffering from extreme cold.

For the Centre's 100th blanket each staff member contributed by knitting at least one stitch of purple wool, Glenys' favourite colour.

The 28 knitted squares were then sewn together by Belinda to create the 'Wrap with Love' blanket to be given to someone in need.
