Our second onsite GP conference for 2025 will focus on oncology, specifically looking at lung cancer, soft tissue tumours, and immunotherapy in cancer treatment.

New and emerging trends in lung cancer care
Dr Cilla Hasovits - Medical Oncologist
Dr Hasovits will discuss advances in lung cancer care with a particular focus on emerging targeted therapy options, the incorporation of multidisciplinary care and the potential impact of lung cancer screening on treatment options and outcomes.

Soft tissue tumours and pseudotumours of the abdominal wall
A/Prof T. Michael Hughes - Surgical Oncologist (Breast, Melanoma, Sarcoma)
A/Prof Hughes will present a structured approach to diagnosing abdominal wall lumps, covering common primary soft tissue neoplasms and exploring intriguing case studies of pseudotumours.

Immunotherapy in cancer treatment - beginning of the end
Dr Kazi Nahar - Medical Oncologist
Dr Nahar will provide an update on the role of immunotherapy across various cancer types, discussing developments, advantages over other cancer treatments, logistical considerations, potential toxicities, and future directions.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply an understanding of lung cancer staging, histological and molecular subtypes, and systemic treatment options to guide timely referrals and support informed discussions with patients about prognosis and management.
  • Discuss the scope of immunotherapy in cancer treatment, recognise its advantages and limitations, and identify potential toxicities and their management.
  • Assess abdominal wall lumps, differentiate between common and uncommon soft tissue neoplasms and pseudotumours, and identify cases requiring specialist referral for further evaluation and management.
