Knee osteoarthritis

Dr Adrain Low MBBS (USyd), PhD, FRACS, FAOrthA
The presenter will discuss epidemiology and risk factors for knee osteoarthritis. Non-operative treatment options including exercise and weight loss, and surgical options including osteotomy, partial and total knee replacements will be presented.

Dr Low is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the shoulder and knee. He studied medicine at the University of Sydney followed by a PhD at UNSW. Dr Low received fellowship training in shoulder and knee at Oxford and Cambridge and is currently a senior lecturer at the Sydney Adventist Hospital Clinical School, University of Sydney.

Bowel cancer - the importance of screening

Dr Saurabh Gupta BSc (Med), MBBS (Hons), FRACP
The presenter will will provide an update on colorectal cancer and colonoscopic polypectomy. The importance of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program and how this program is reducing deaths from bowel cancer through early detection of the disease will also be discussed.

Dr Gupta is an interventional gastroenterologist specialising in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. He has a special interest in pancreatic and biliary disease including therapeutic EUS and ERCP, as well as endoscopic treatment of advanced neoplasia including mucosal resection and submucosal dissection. Dr Gupta has recently been appointed as the founding chairman of the Bariatric Endoscopy special interest group within the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.

New developments for commonly encountered eye diseases

Dr Anil Arora MBBS (USyd), MMed (Oph Sci), FRANZCO
This presentation discusses new developments and advances in ophthalmology that have become available to treat common eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and in laser vision correction to eliminate the need for glasses.

Dr Arora is an ophthalmologist who has been affiliated with Sydney Adventist Hospital for 20 years. He practices in Wahroonga and the Central Coast. He enjoys providing a comprehensive ophthalmology service and has subspecialty interests in retinal diseases and surgery, cataract surgery with multifocal intraocular lenses and laser vision correction.
