Advanced Life Support - Adult

Target Audience: Current practicing clinicians in critical areas. Limited places available. Priority for SAH staff working in ICU, CCU, EC and CCL

Prerequisites:

  • Compulsory pre reading package – this will be sent to you upon enrolment
  • AHCL staff must complete Between the Flags – Deteriorating patient eLearning – Adult Patients and be competent in rhythm recognition

Course Content: Based on Australian Resuscitation Council’s (ARC) guidelines. Workshop includes hands on skill stations and scenario based learning.

Certification: Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.

Airway and Intubation Workshop

Target Audience: For Medical and Nursing staff in critical care areas

Date: Tuesday 1 May

Course Content:  This half day workshop is designed for current practicing clinicians in critical care areas to enhance their skills in airway management, basic intubation, difficult intubations and emergency airway management. Enrolled Nursing

SAH Clinical Component Diploma of Nursing

Target Audience: Diploma of Nursing students enrolled with Meadowbank TAFE

Prerequisites: Higher School Certificate or Certificate III qualification; First Aid Certificate; Literacy and numeracy tests; National Police check; Immunisation records.

Dates: Three intakes - see www.sah.org.au/diploma-of-nursing for more details.

Location: Meadowbank TAFE and Sydney Adventist Hospital

Course Content: Students will be required to fulfil specific course objectives and complete the minimum number of clinical hours while working under supervision. On completion students will be eligible to apply for registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). All SAH students will be offered an interview with the potential to be accepted into the SAH graduate nurse program.

Leaders and Managers Development

Target Audience: Leaders and Managers of AHCL

Content: This program will equip participants with the necessary tools and skills to achieve positive leadership and management results.

Leaders Intervention Skills Workshop (LIS)

Target Audience: AHCL Leadership (Mandatory Training)

Content: This is the final workshop in the Promoting Professional Accountability series, and follows on from the Leading Reliability Improvement for Safer Health Care (LRISH) workshop held last year. This workshop is only available to Leadership group.

Mastering Difficult Interactions with Patients

Target Audience: Nursing and Allied Health Managers, Team Leaders, CNS / CMS and Senior staff

Content: A solution focused approach to enhancing the effectiveness and ease of dealing with difficult patient interactions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To connect with what makes people and situations ‘difficult’
  • To improve communication and negotiating skills to effectively handle difficult discussions and situations
  • To apply techniques for minimising conflict
  • To use personal ‘survival’ techniques that improve skills and minimise stress

Mastering Safer and Reliable Practice Workshop (MSRP)

Target Audience: This three hour workshop has been designed by Cognitive Institute to provide healthcare professionals with knowledge, insights, essential strategies and practical tools to maximize their delivery of reliable and safer clinical care.

Medical Terminology

Interpret & Apply Medical Terminology Appropriately BSBMED301

Target Audience: People working in health care who are required to communicate effectively with doctors, nurses, allied health workers and patients.

Dates: 7 sessions – 3 May, 10 May, 17 May, 24 May, 31 May, 7 June, 14 June

Course Content: Use of appropriate medical terminology when communicating orally or in writing to patients, fellow workers and other health professionals. Fundamental word structure used in medical terms, common medical conditions, medical investigations and procedures. Medical abbreviations, basic medical equipment, instruments and medications. Basic systems of the body and referrals. Policy guidelines protocols and procedures in a medical setting. 7 x 2 hour sessions.

Newborn Resuscitation Workshop

Target Audience: SAH Maternity Unit Midwives

Course Content: Update your knowledge and skill in the field of newborn resuscitation with this interactive workshop consisting of a short lecture and interactive workstations.

Two identical sessions will be conducted.

Resus4Kids©

Target Audience: Staff of AHCL only (as instructed by your manager)

Part 1: Prerequisite e-learning:

Completion of RESUS4KIDS, Paediatric Life Support for Healthcare Rescuers, available on San eLearning. The 90 minute module can be completed in one sitting or in chunks and saved for completion at a later date. This module must be completed prior to attending the face to face training.

Part 2: Practical Workshop

The practical (90 minute) face to face workshop demonstrates paediatric resuscitation and treatment of a choking child or infant followed by hands-on practice related to paediatric resuscitation.

The workshops will be held in groups of 6 facilitated by a SAH paediatric resuscitation trainer.
