'Choices in Childbirth' Prenatal Education Classes

There is much to learn about labour, birth and the changes that occur with having a baby. Our comprehensive Choices in Childbirth course is facilitated by our experienced childbirth educators. It was developed to give you the information needed to help you through this new and exciting stage of life, and to help you feel as prepared as possible for the birth of your baby.

The course is run at various times. Our evening courses are 2-hour sessions run over four weeks on Monday or Thursday nights, giving you time to digest the information and have your questions answered. Alternatively, the course is presented in 2 x 4-hour sessions on either Sunday mornings and / or afternoons, and as a full day Sunday course from 9am - 5pm. 

Topics include:

  • Normal pregnancy and birth, and possible variations from normal
  • Developing strong pelvic floor muscles
  • Different stages of labour and what to expect
  • What to bring to hospital
  • Couple's self-help techniques & coping strategies for labour & birth
  • Partner / support person's role
  • Benefits and side effects of medications used in labour
  • Postnatal care during your stay
  • Normal newborn behaviour at birth
  • Newborn feeding pattern in the first few days after birth
  • Tour of Maternity Unit

Cost: $326 per couple (you will receive an invoice with payment details in the mail once you have booked the class)
