At Sydney Adventist Hospital, our Mission, "Christianity in Action", defines who we are, what we stand for, and our reason for being here – creating and fostering an environment that guides our work to show that we care for our patients, our colleagues, our community, and ourselves.
In 1903 Sydney Adventist Hospital was founded by the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) for the special purpose of carrying out Christ’s Mission of health and healing. Recognising the biblical importance placed on the well-being of the whole person, the SDA Church makes preservation of health and healing of the sick a priority and considers healthcare to be the human expression of Christ’s healing ministry.
Now more than 100 years since the Hospital’s beginnings, the San’s Mission is unchanged and remains the guiding directive under which all other Hospital activities – including patient care, business planning, staff management, corporate culture development, and human interactions take place. Our Mission guides not only the everyday operations of the Hospital but also our involvement with projects both in the local community and overseas.
Some community projects include support and work with various local Rotary groups on projects such as the Novus Foundation on Sydney’s North Shore and ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children) providing pro-bono health services for disadvantaged children.
Within the Asia Pacific basin and beyond, Sydney Adventist Hospital’s Open Heart International Program, formerly Health Care Outreach, coordinates volunteer medical, nursing and allied health professionals to undertake medical and surgical procedures in developing countries, where men, women and children otherwise have restricted or no access to medical treatment.
Sydney Adventist Hospital's Spiritual Care Services also plays a special role in supporting and fostering the San’s Mission. Click here to find out more about our Spiritual Care Services.
