AHCL-affiliated Sanitarium Health & Wellness has launched a new cholesterol-lowering Weet-Bix

Sanitarium Health & Wellbeing has just launched its new 'cholesterol-lowering' Weet-Bix.

The Australian-first breakfast innovation will mean that the 1 in 3 Aussies living with high cholesterol will no longer need to rely on multiple food products (i.e. milk, yogurt, margarine spreads) to get the efficacious 2g daily intake of plant sterols needed to lower cholesterol levels - as recommended by the Heart Foundation.

The new Weet-Bix is the first food product in the country that's clinically proven to reduce cholesterol levels by up to 9% in four weeks, with just two biscuits (one serving) consumed daily.

The launch comes at a time when worrying statistics demonstrate Australians' cholesterol complacency. In a nationwide poll of 1,000 Australians, it revealed:

  • Two-thirds (64%) do not have their cholesterol tested once every 2 years, as commonly advised by health practitioners
  • Almost half (43%) of these respondents are aged 45 and above and fall within the high-risk group
  • 1 in 4 (23%) have never even thought about it, which is concerning given there are no symptoms of high cholesterol; and 1 in 5 feel maintaining a healthy lifestyle (18%) or a healthy diet (17%) alone is enough
