Membership

The following categories of people may become borrowers:

STAFF of the Hospital, volunteers and accredited medical officers.  Free

STUDENTS AND STAFF of Avondale College Faculty of Nursing and Health.  Free

MEMBERS of UNILINC libraries (reciprocal agreement).  Free

STUDENTS on clinical placement - Free for the duration of their placement.

MEMBERS of the public. $50 for 12 months, $30 for tertiary students.

Membership

  • Members of the public joining SAH Library pay $50 for 12 months from the day of registration.

Fines

  • 50c per item per day overdue.
  • $9 per Closed Reserve item per day overdue.
  • Lost items are charged at replacement cost with a $50 minimum charge.

The Library holds one of the largest and most current nursing collections in New South Wales.

Loans

Books Most books may be borrowed for 2 weeks.  You may have 2 renewals online, by phone, or in person.  Books with a blue dot on the spine may be borrowed for 7 days and may have 2 renewals.  Hospital staff and Avondale College Faculty of Nursing and Health students may have up to 15 items on loan at any one time.  All other borrowers may have up to 6 items.

Closed Reserve Items have “CR” at the beginning of the call number and an orange dot on the spine.  Closed Reserve items may be used in the Library during opening hours on presentation of your ID.  Overnight loans of up to 4 CR items may be borrowed after 8pm and are due back by 9am the next day.  Weekend CR loans may be borrowed after 12 noon Friday and are due back by 9am Monday
UNILINC and Registered Borrowers may use Closed Reserve material in the Library only.

Nursing Videos are not for general loan.  They may only leave the Library for clinical education within the Hospital or to the Faculty of Nursing and Health for tutorials and lectures.  Two video players with head phones are available in the Library’s AV Room. General interest videos and DVDs are for 7 day loan. You may have up to 4 DVDs at any one time. A DVD player is available in the Group Study Room.

Renewals may be made online until 11.59 pm on the date due. Sign-in with your User ID/Barcode and PIN. 2 renewals are allowed subject to demand by other borrowers. Overdue items cannot be renewed.

Journals, Vertical File, Pamphlet File, and Reference items are not for general loan but may be used anywhere within the Library.

Reservations may be made online for general loan items but not Closed Reserve.

Returns of general loans should be made in the returns chute at the Desk during opening hours or in the after-hours chute at the entrance door. Closed Reserve items should be handed in at the Library Desk.

Overdues Items returned on the date due, but after the Library has closed, will be regarded as overdue. Fines are payable on overdue items.

Services

InterLibrary Loans
Inter-library loan facilities are available only to SAH staff and postgraduate students of the Avondale College Faculty of Nursing and Health. Charges apply. "Inter Library Loan Request Photocopy Declaration" forms are held at the Desk and must be signed by the requestor before the item is supplied. Contact InterLibrary Loans Officer or email library@sah.org.au

Current Awareness Service A subject listing of selected recent journal articles is circulated monthly to various SAH departments. Individuals or departments may request photocopies of up to 5 articles from each list.

Selective Dissemination Of Information This service offers a bibliography of personalised professional articles emailed weekly from Medline, or monthly from CINAHL, to SAH managers, educators and clinical specialists. This service is free. Full text document delivery is charged at cost.

Laminating up to A4 size costs $2 per sheet.

Christian Centre for Bioethics

There are 3700 books in this unique specialist collection. Materials cover

  • Codes of professional ethics

All aspects of the issues are covered.  Students will find all the major bioethics texts of the last 15 years as well as today’s topics of debate.  Most books in this collection are for 14 day loan.  There are 26 bioethics journals and newsletters.  The journals are indexed in Medline which is available on 9 OPACs in the Library.
