Advanced Life Support – Adult
For Registered Nurses with ALS experience currently practicing in critical care areas and seeking recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Advanced Life Support - Paediatric
One-day workshop for Nurses and Doctors with ALS experience currently practicing in critical care areas, covering assessment, intubation, fluids and pharmacology, vascular access, defibrillation and scenario-based learning.

Airway and Intubation Workshop
Half-day workshop for Medical and Nursing staff from Critical Care areas, aimed at enhancing skills in managing basic intubation, difficult intubations and emergency airway management. 
 
Anti Discrimination Training with Solutions for Harassment and Aggression in the Workplace:  
Respond Effectively to Difficult or Challenging Behaviour HLTCSD306B

One-day course providing an approach to issues associated with workplace diversity alongside the dynamics surrounding group and individual responsibility, and empowers staff who may need to manage threatening, abusive or violent behaviour.  Participants in this course will receive a statement of attainment HLTCSD306B Respond Effectively to Difficult or Challenging Behaviour from the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance HLT32507.
Note: This course is an elective module from the Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance and Health Service Assistance.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         
Blood and Specimen Collection:
Perform Blood Collection HLTPAT306B
Collect Pathology Specimens Other Than Blood HLTPAT304B

Designed for people who wish to learn skills relating to blood collection in a medical practice, collection centre or a pathology environment, the course prerequisites are basic medical terminology and an understanding of human physiology.
Note: This course fulfils the requirements of elective modules from the Certificate III in Pathology and a statement of Attainment will be issued to those completing and fulfilling course requirements.

Cancer Care Workshop
Professional development workshop designed for Registered Nurses and Health Care personnel working with cancer patients in an acute care setting. Course includes an introduction to chemo-safety to meet SAH core competencies, Radiation Therapy, Myeloma, Medical Emergencies, Case reviews and symptom control, Terms associated with Cancer Chemotherapy, The Cell Cycle, The Cytotoxic check list, Extravasation, Common Side Effects, and Safe Handling of Cytotoxic Spills.

Cannulation Workshop

One-day workshop designed to update knowledge and skills for all current cannulators and provide a practical workshop for new and trainee cannulators. New cannulators require approval from their Nursing Unit Managers.

Process Financial Transactions 
Mandatory for all SAH staff members whose job description states that they handle cash as part of their role.

Clinical Skills Workshop:
An Advanced Course for Enrolled Nurses and Endorsed Enrolled Nurses
Four separate workshops covering a range of topics. Available for all Enrolled and Endorsed Enrolled Nurses wishing to upgrade their clinical skills and knowledge to an advanced level.

CPR Course and Re-accreditation
Perform CPR-HLTCPR201A

Designed to cater for all persons who require the skills and knowledge of CPR, the course work is adapted according to specific need to suit all health care professionals including doctors, ambulance officers and registered nurses. The course is conducted in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and does not address other aspects of resuscitation, life support or first aid.
Note: This course is an elective module from the Cert III in Allied Health Assistance HLT32407 and an elective from the Cert III in Health Services Assistance HLT32507


Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled / Division 2)

Meadowbank TAFE in partnership with Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH) offers a Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled / Division 2).


ECG Course (Basic)
One-day course designed to cater for the needs of a variety of health care professionals from ambulance officers, registered nurses and cardiac technicians.

English As A Second Language In A Clinical Setting
Communicate and Work Effectively in Health-HLTHIR301A

Specifically for Registered or Enrolled with NSW NMB or enrolled in Bachelor of Nursing or Enrolled Nurse program, these classes are for International RN’s and health care workers.
Participants completing the course will receive a Statement of Attainment from the Certificate III in ‘Health Services Assistance’ HLT32507.

First Aid and First Aid Reaccreditation 
Apply First Aid-HLTFA301B

One-day course covering essential First Aid for an emergency, using basic life support measures. Available to all SAH staff, special interest groups and the wider community.
Participants who successfully complete this Nationally endorsed unit of competency will be awarded a Statement of Attainment valid for 3 years. This is an elective module in both the Cert III in Health Services Assistance HLT32507 and a core module from the Cert III in Pathology HLT32507.

Food Allergies and Anaphylaxis Management
2-hour workshop for Healthcare Workers, Childcare Workers, Parents and family members, designed to create awareness of specific food allergies and assist in updating knowledge and skills required to effectively manage a patient or family member with anaphylactic shock.

Leadership and Management Program
All participants in this course must be nominated by their department head and will be advised of their attendance dates. The program provides a comprehensive appreciation of the theory of leadership and management and the practical components that are required for effective performance at this level.

Maternity Emergencies
One-day workshop designed to update midwives who wish to further advance their clinical knowledge and skills.

Medical Terminology   
Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately BSBMED301B 

Designed for people working in a health care environment who are required to communicate effectively with doctors, nurses, allied health workers and patients. Participants who successfully complete this module will be awarded a Statement of Attainment, in module BSBSMED301B Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately from the Certificate III in Business Administration (Medical) BSB31107.

Pain Management Workshop
Half-day workshop providing participants with the opportunity to gain substantial theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills to better assess, manage and care for patients experiencing pain - acute, chronic and acute/chronic.

Pharmacology Refresher for Registered Nurses and ENs
A series of half-day workshops designed to update Registered Nurses, ENs, and all staff involved in medication administration. 

Post Natal Update Workshop for Midwives
One-day workshop designed to update midwives who wish to further advance their clinical knowledge and skills.

Preceptor Program (RN)
Part of the Professional Recognition Program this course offers every Registered Nurse the opportunity to upgrade their status to Preceptor, which is required as a prerequisite for all Clinical Nurse Specialists. Course completion will earn three post-graduate credit points.

Recruitment Workshop

Recruit, Select and Induct Staff BSBSHRM402A
One-day course for individuals with a role in recruitment, selection and induction functions, working under the direction of a human resources manager. Participants in this course will receive a statement of attainment as evidence that they have completed unit of competency BSBHRM402A Recruit, Select and Induct Staff from the Certificate IV in Business BSB40207.
Participants are required to complete approximately 3 hours of self-paced learning prior to the class.

Refresher Course for Nurses and Midwives  
  
Designed to support and encourage nurses and midwives wishing to achieve personal goals associated with commencing or returning to the acute care setting.  See our Refresher Courses section for more information.

Risk and Quality Management Workshop 

Three separate modules designed for Managers and Directors, focusing on updating and reviewing accountability of managers in the field of Corporate and Clinical governance.      
 
Skills Training for Grievance Contact Officers
One-day course training nominated staff who may need to provide support and options to co-workers who have a grievance. Training officers from the Anti Discrimination Board conduct the course specifically for Sydney Adventist Hospital staff.

Team Leaders Workshop
One or two-day course specifically for Sydney Adventist Hospital staff being trained as department team leaders.

Training and Assessment
The TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is a qualification required by trainers and assessors to teach and assess in TAFE, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and other vocational education providers.
