Cardiac CT

San Radiology is committed to providing you with world class facilities and patient care.

In October 2006, San Radiology installed Australia's first Dual Source CT.  We have performed over 3,500 coronary artery scans and continue to be leaders in the cardiac diagnostic industry. Our specialist cardiac imaging radiologists, along with highly skilled radiographers, dedicated nursing and administrative staff, are here to meet your needs.

Most patients find a having a Coronary Angiogram CT scan to be a relatively simple test.  The actual scan lasts for approximately 6-15 seconds, however, you will be in the room for about 15 minutes.  You will be asked to lie on a table that moves in and out of a doughnut shaped opening in the scanner, called a gantry.  You will need to lie very still and the radiographers will put ECG dots on your chest to monitor your heart beat for the duration of the exam.  You will have to hold your breath at times lasting up to 15 seconds during the exam.  You will also be given an injection of contrast during the examination which is necessary to highlight the blood vessels in the heart. If you have any concerns regarding the contrast or an iodine allergy, please speak with your referring doctor or our nursing staff at the time of booking.

If possible, we advise that you schedule your follow up appointment with your referring doctor no sooner than 48 hours after having your scan.  Please inform the radiographer who is performing your scan of your follow up appointment time with your doctor.
