Sleep Disorders

The San Children’s Sleep Disorders Unit is a consultatory and investigative facility available to patients from birth until school-leaving age. Patients and their families have an initial consultation and a sleep investigation (overnight polysomnography) is arranged if indicated. All paediatric sleep disorders are comprehensively covered by this service.
 
Common disorders in children and infants include:

  • Snoring / Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
  • Insomnia and Circadian Rhythm Disturbance
  • Family history or high risk of Sudden Infant Death (SIDS)
  • Parasomnias including night terrors, teeth grinding, sleep walking, sleep talking, head banging, body rocking, and enuresis
  • Behavioural Disorders related to Sleep
  • Narcolepsy
  • Periodic Leg Movements in Sleep/Restless Legs Syndrome
  • Nocturnal Respiratory Failure
  • Chronic Lung disease

  • Nightmares / Recurrent Frightened Wakenings

  • Bedtime refusal / Poor sleep hygiene

Referral

A doctor’s referral is required for consultation. Polysomnography is charged at the scheduled fee.

 

Location

The San Children’s Sleep Disorders Unit is now located in a new, purpose-built location on Level 3 of the Hospital.
