Cardiac

Sydney Adventist Hospital provides state-of-the-art cardiac care to help thousands of heart patients lead longer, healthier lives. Our decades of experience in caring for patients with heart disease has established the San as one of Australia's leading providers of complete private cardiac care, from prevention, diagnosis, and Emergency Care through to surgery, treatment, cardiac rehabilitation and wellness services.  Cardiac services at Sydney Adventist Hospital includes areas such as Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery and Cardiac Rehabilitation among others.

Experience

Widely recognised as a leader in private health care, the San was the first hospital in Australia to offer an integrated, fully private cardiovascular surgery program. Since cardiovascular surgery started at the San in 1979, more than 50,000 cardiovascular surgeries and procedures have been performed.
Today more than 2,700 cardiac procedures are performed annually, ranging from stents and pacemaker implants to open-heart surgery.

Care

The ongoing spirit, dedication and care of the specialised, highly trained Doctors, Nurses, Case Managers, Dieticians, Physiotherapists, and Cardiac Rehabilitation staff have enabled Sydney Adventist Hospital to cement its reputation as an Australian leader in private cardiovascular care.

Technology & Innovation

From the outset of our cardiovascular program, the San has continually reviewed and adopted cutting-edge cardiac technology and techniques to support improved treatment and outcomes for patients.

In 2006 Sydney Adventist Hospital was the first hospital in Australia to install the world’s most advanced body CT scanner – a machine that non-invasively scans faster than a beating heart to diagnose cardiovascular disease - allowing doctors to identify people at risk of a heart attack even before showing any symptoms. Sydney Adventist Hospital continues to be a leader in the field of coronary artery grafting embracing new innovations in technology and cardiac services. Since the late 1990s San cardiac surgeons have performed the off-pump coronary artery bypass procedure. This procedure is minimally invasive open-heart surgery performed on a beating heart. For patients who are selected, it means faster recovery with fewer risks.

Since 1991, the Hospital’s cardiac surgeons have been implanting a device known as an Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator into appropriate patients with heart rhythm problems. This device shocks the heart back into a normal rhythm when needed. Our specialists continue to be leaders in this field.

In the 1980’s, the San was one of the first private hospitals to offer angioplasty and stenting, a treatment for coronary heart disease that does not require open-heart surgery. Sydney Adventist Hospital continues as an established centre of excellence performing hundreds of these procedures each year using the latest technology.
