The diagnosis of cancer for yourself or your loved one can be a frightening and stressful experience. At Sydney Adventist Hospital our mission is to treat the ‘whole’ person, ensuring that all required support is provided during this challenging time.
The San is renowned for excellence in cancer care services offering a range of treatments, care options and support services for patients and carers. These include specialised diagnostic procedures, multidisciplinary cancer teams, surgery, follow-up treatment options and care from specialist oncology nurses, allied health and medical professionals.
Patients who require a day-stay infusion, blood transfusion or chemotherapy will attend the San Day Infusion Centre located on Level 4 of the San Clinic. If an overnight stay is required, patients may be admitted to the Hospital's Poon Oncology Ward or accommodation can be organised on campus at Jacaranda Lodge. Our Poon Oncology Ward offers bright, well-appointed private patient rooms with ensuites, a quiet room for patients and visitors and features a relaxing indoor atrium and garden which is reserved especially for cancer patients, their families and visitors. Sydney Adventist Hospital is committed to providing sensible, caring and appropriate support at all times during the cancer journey including palliative care support under the patient's usual specialist and/or a palliative care specialist.
The Radiation Oncology Institute offers radiation treatment to both inpatients and outpatients and is located on the hospital grounds.
The San is active in Cancer Research with Clinical trials available for patients wherever appropriate. Refer to the Research section of our website to learn more about research at Sydney Adventist Hospital and to see the list of "Current Research Projects" across all specialties including Cancer.
Our Cancer Support team offers a range of educational information, support groups and cancer-specific programs. These services are available, along with our experienced Cancer Care staff, to support you through your cancer journey from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Cancer support staff are also able to provide links to national information and support organisations.
A recent addition to our services is the Cancer Council Information Centre which opened on Level 4 of the San Clinic in February 2011. Staffed by trained volunteers from the Cancer Council, the centre offers a friendly, comfortable space for cancer patients, their families and carers. Brochures and information are available on various types of cancer and a range of support services accessible both at the San and in the community. The centre is open Monday to Thursday 10.00am – 4.00pm and Friday 10.00am – 2.00pm.
