After Delivering

Visiting Hours

Maternity Visiting Hours are between 3.00pm – 5.00pm and 7.00pm – 8.00pm.

Your partner and your children may visit at any time, except during the compulsory rest period.
The doors to Maternity are locked and access outside these hours is restricted to immediate family only. Access is via swipe card, available from the Maternity staff, or via the phone located next to the entry door.

Please discourage any visitor who is unwell from visiting, including immediate family.

Rest Period

For your benefit, we have a strict Rest Period from 1.30pm – 3.00pm. Please inform family and friends. During these hours no telephone calls will be put through to your room.

Diet

Diet is an important element of post-birth adjustment. If you are breast feeding it is important that you drink adequate fluids, and choose foods from the five food groups.

Security

For your security, surveillance cameras have been installed throughout the Maternity Unit. The main doors of Maternity are locked, accessible only to staff with security card access or to others by phone access.

Partners may obtain temporary swipe cards for use during Mum's stay. This requires a deposit that will be refunded on return of card.

Leaving Hospital

Comprehensive information is available under 'Day of Discharge' in our Having Your Baby booklet. You should receive this from your Obstetrician, and it is also available at the Pre-natal Education Classes.

The average length of stay for a vaginal delivery is three to four days, and five to six days for a caesarean. If you have any questions, please check with your midwife.

Discharge time is between 8:30am and 10:00am. We ask that you vacate your room during this time to allow us to prepare for the next admission. Remember that you will need clothes for the baby and have an approved capsule or child restraint installed in your car to transport baby home. Information on fitting stations is available should you need it.

Your Feedback

We welcome your feedback so that we may pursue our goal of excellent care. Feel free to fill in the Patient Feedback Form and forward to administration.
